Having snatched a few minutes peace while on maternity leave, I was reading an article on yet another success story about a working mum who really was able to 'have it all'. Really? The key apparently was to find your reason to get up in the mornings and make it your job. Good for her, I was thinking, the only thing that gets me up in the morning is coffee, ha! I then remembered my coffee was currently getting cold on the bench and promptly forgot said article until Covid19 hit.
They say boredom breeds creativity; certainly my husband and I were more than a little bored after yet another lockdown in Auckland ... and then we met Jane Doe. A beautiful old 5kg gas roaster, origins unknown, sitting in our neighbour's garage, we fell in love. Our neighbour has over 20 years experience in the coffee industry and was already tinkering with her, and given we were craving something to keep us occupied in between the 1pm updates we joined forces, started playing with a few blends and getting to know this old girl. Oozing potential, once the boys gave her some longed-for TLC, Jane Doe helped us create something magical.
A coffee that transformed me. Put a little extra pep in my step, a glint in my eye and a smile on my face. A cup of something so much more than just a coffee, I felt more confident, a little flirty and a desire to start singing while doing my third round of dishes. Nothing short of a miracle. My very own personality transplant in a cup. And although we were making coffee just for the love of it, I suddenly remembered that article and with the support of friends and family, Vixen Coffee was born.
